Italy
The Smile House network is currently present in eight Italian cities and represents the main national point of reference for the treatment of craniomaxillofacial malformations.
Thanks to our wide-reaching presence and the quality of our protocols, we treat 65% of cleft lip and palate cases in Italy, ensuring patients a complete and sustainable care pathway close to where they live.

A virtuous cycle: synergies and continuous improvement
We are convinced that the distribution of centres across the country does not only serve to reduce health migration, but also enables synergies capable of generating constant improvement in care pathways.
Our commitment is developed through concrete actions:
- Protocol analysis: we study the results of the various centres to understand how to optimise clinical performance.
- Organisational support: we work with health authorities to ensure the presence of all the necessary specialist roles.
- Technological assessments: we equip every centre with consistent technologies to evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic stages using the same standards.
- Patient centrality: we integrate care so that every treatment is consistent, coordinated and truly interdisciplinary.
The requirements for excellence at Smile House Centres
Setting up a Smile House Centre is not a simple administrative act, but a process that requires a deep commitment to a person-centred model of care. Each site is created within a solid framework, based on institutional agreements and on full integration between public and private sectors.
Each of our Centres guarantees:
- a multidisciplinary team: a synergic team made up of maxillofacial and plastic surgeons, dentists, orthodontists, neonatologists, geneticists, psychologists, speech therapists, nurses and other specialised professionals.
- appropriate technologies and spaces: outpatient clinics, operating theatres and paediatric wards that operate according to a shared clinical protocol (PDTA).
- training and research: every facility takes part in a national educational project and is integrated with cutting-edge scientific research.
- advanced support: the sites can rely on the strategic vision of our centres of excellence (such as the Genetics Centre in Ferrara and the Technology Centre in Udine) for advanced diagnostic tools and surgical planning.
Joining the Smile House network means building, in every corner of the country, a pathway that accompanies the patient from prenatal diagnosis right through to adulthood.
