The Centre was established thanks to a memorandum of understanding between the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria and Fondazione Smile House ETS, an institutional commitment that was renewed on 4 November 2022 to ensure continuity and excellence in care. It is now coordinated by Dr Giuseppe Consorti, medical director of the Maxillofacial Surgery Operating Unit of the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria delle Marche.

The Centre offers a complete, multidisciplinary outpatient pathway that puts the patient and their family at the centre. Care begins even before birth, with prenatal diagnosis and psychological support for parents, continues after birth with support for breastfeeding, preparation for the primary surgical procedure, post-operative recovery and any genetic investigations, and continues throughout the whole growth period with periodic check-ups, orthodontic and speech therapy treatments, management of ear, nose and throat issues, and dental hygiene.

The Centre ensures continuity of care through a pathway that includes:

• First appointments and preparation for procedures;
  
• Secondary surgical treatments;
  
• Periodic post-operative check-ups;
  
• Long-term therapies such as orthodontics and speech therapy;
  
• Management of hearing issues;
  
• Management of dental hygiene;
  
• Psychological support;
  
• Genetic investigations.
