The Centre was established thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed on 13 July 2023 between the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Policlinico “G. Rodolico – San Marco” and Smile House Fondazione ETS. Directed by Prof. Alberto Bianchi, the Centre operates within the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit (U.O.C.) of the Ospedale San Marco and is the result of a multidisciplinary clinical and surgical care pathway launched with the support of the Foundation.

The Centre is a regional point of reference for the care and treatment of children and adults born with cleft lip and palate or other craniofacial malformations. The multidisciplinary team develops a personalised care pathway that begins even before birth with prenatal diagnosis, supporting the patient and their family throughout every stage of growth. The main goal is to restore harmony and function to patients’ faces, fostering their full integration into social life.

To ensure continuity of care and closeness to families, the Centre offers numerous specialist services and monitoring activities:

• Consultations with the multidisciplinary team immediately after a prenatal diagnosis;
• The possibility of giving birth at the Ospedale San Marco;
  
• First examinations at birth and genetic and dysmorphology consultations;
  
• Primary and secondary surgical treatments;
  
• Pre-surgical dento-facial orthopaedics;
  
• Multi-specialist check-up visits;
  
• Speech therapy assessment and treatment;
  
• Ear surgery visits and audiological assessments;
  
• Orthodontics and dento-facial orthopaedics;
  
• Psychological support.
