A sea of smiles: Smile House kindles new hope thanks to the aircraft carrier Cavour.

Smiles are sometimes born in unexpected places: this time it happened in Manila, in the heart of the Philippine Sea, and in Goa, in India, aboard the aircraft carrier Cavour. Thanks to the historic collaboration between the Italian Navy and Smile House Fondazione ETS, seven young Filipino patients between 3 and 5 September and a further four Indian patients between 28 September and 5 October received maxillofacial care that will change their lives forever.

A journey of solidarity

The story of the aircraft carrier Cavour and our Foundation is well known: an imposing ship, usually dedicated to military operations, becomes a cutting-edge medical centre thanks to the collaboration with a team of volunteer surgeons from Smile House ETS. Here, among the ocean waves, a team of surgeons and healthcare workers devoted themselves with expertise and passion to giving a future back to children affected by severe malformations, children who, in their own country, would not have had access to adequate care. Each of the operations represented new hope, a concrete gesture of love and solidarity.

The power of a smile

Every operation, every smile restored to the faces of those children made this journey special. The Cavour, with its on-board hospital equipped with the finest technology, showed that, even on missions so far from home, humanity can triumph over everything. The strength of the collaboration between Smile House ETS and the Navy has made it possible for these young patients to look towards a different future, a future full of possibilities and smiles.
